Newark Police Arrest Transient For Alleged Shoplifting
Store employees spotted the theft and called for help, police report.

NEWARK, CA — A transient man was arrested at a retail store in Newark on Saturday for allegedly shoplifting, police said.
At 2:07 p.m., a man was inside a Big Lots store located at 5453 Thornton Ave., where store employees observed him stealing merchandise, police said.
The employees contacted Newark police, and an officer was dispatched to the store. At the scene, the officer contacted the suspect and found him to be in possession of merchandise.

The suspect, a 25-year-old man, was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail, police said. His name was not immediately available.
