NEWARK, CA - This week is National Public Safety Telecommunications Appreciation Week and the Newark Police Department has recognized one woman as their Dispatcher of the Year. Patricia "Tricia" Lopez was honored, along with other safety dispatchers in Alameda County, at the annual Dispatcher Banquet last weekend, according to police. Communications personnel are considered true first responders and can provide a calm demeanor and comfort to citizens or victims in distress, police said.
