Newark Police Identify Homicide Victim

Investigators need information to solve the crime.

Newark police said today they identified the body of a man found Monday on the side of the road as Fernando Guerra, 24, of San Lorenzo.

Officers responded to Thornton Avenue between Gateway Boulevard and Willow Street on Monday at 1:23 p.m., police said.

Officers found Guerra with a gunshot wound, and police said they are investigating his death as a homicide.

The Newark Police Department Detective Division is currently investigating the incident with the help of the Alameda County coroner’s bureau, police said.
