Newark Police Issue Fraud Warning

The scammers are pretending to be the Newark Police Department.

NEWARK, CA — The Newark Police Department is warning the public of a spoof being carried out by callers fraudulently claiming to be police and requesting money for payment of fines via gift card purchases.

Police officials said the department will never call and request money.

They advise anyone who receives such a call to hang up immediately and call the department's non-emergency line at 510-578-4237.
