Newark Police Seize Guns, Drugs: Arrest Driver

In addition to two guns, police seized an extended ammunition magazine.

NEWARK, CA — Police in Newark arrested a man on Thursday after officers caught the man driving without a valid license and with drugs and weapons inside his vehicle.

Just before 7 p.m., officers were conducting a DUI enforcement near Bluebell and Rockrose drives when they stopped a vehicle.

Officers then learned the 22-year-old driver, a Salinas resident, did not have a valid driver's license, nor registration and insurance for the vehicle, police said.

Officers also located two firearms, an extended magazine, and various controlled substances inside the vehicle, according to police.

Officers arrested the suspect, whose name was not released, on suspicion of driving without a license, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of an undetectable firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and possession of a controlled substance.

The suspect has since been booked into Santa Rita jail, police said.
