Newark Residents Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Checks
Police say they were nabbed when they tried to cash the stolen checks.

NEWARK, CA — Two people were arrested Tuesday morning in Newark for allegedly stealing checks and attempting to cash them, police said.
At 10:31 a.m., officers responded to the Check Center located at 5710 Thornton Ave. on a report of two people trying to cash stolen checks.
At the scene, officers located and arrested a 25-year-old man from Newark on suspicion of burglary, forgery, and possessing stolen property.

Officers also arrested a 19-year-old woman from Newark on suspicion of the same offenses, as well as possessing drug paraphernalia, police said.
Officers learned that the checks the suspects were attempting to cash came from a stolen pickup truck that was recovered on Oak Street a short distance from the suspects' residence.

Both suspects were booked into Santa Rita Jail. Their names were not immediately released.
