Newark Tree Lighting Ceremony Planned

The festive evening includes caroling, games, crafts, hot cocoa and cookies, a photo booth, performances, COVID booster shots, and more.

NEWARK, CA — Mark your calendar for next Monday when the City of Newark will hold its annual Tree Lighting ceremony.

It is scheduled to include crafts, games, hot cocoa and cookies, a photo booth, performances from NMHS Choir, Newark Childcare, and the Newark Recreation Betty Gentry Dance Program.

A “Caroling with the Cops” holiday game booth will be staffed by the Newark Police Department, and Alameda County Fire Department will bring their new fire truck.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped gift to support Newark Police and local churches toy drives. A raffle ticket will be given out for each donated gift. Four gift baskets will be raffled off, including one from the police department.

Here's the schedule on Monday, Dec. 6:

  • 4-6 p.m.: The Washington Hospital Healthcare System will be at the Newark Library offering FREE booster COVID shots.
  • 6-6:45 p.m.: Activities ( crafts, games, etc)
  • 6:45 p.m.: Tree lighting program begins

The location is Newark Civic Center, 37101 Newark Blvd.
