No One Injured in Grass Fire that Threatened Horse Stable

The fire started at about 2:36 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

No one was injured in a grass fire in Union City Sunday afternoon, according to the Alameda County Fire Department. Firefighters were first alerted to the one-acre fire at Quarry Lakes and Osprey drives at 2:36 p.m., Battalion Chief John Walsh said.

The fire was burning along a creek near a homeless camp, Walsh said. He said the fire threatened part of a horse stable but crews stopped the spread of the fire “pretty quick.” No one was injured and no part of the homeless camp burned, Walsh said. He said a beehive posed a problem for firefighters for a while.

“We had a crazy swarm of bees out there,” he said. No one was stung. Firefighters extinguished the fire at about 3 p.m., Walsh said.

Walsh did not know how the fire started, but he said five juveniles were reported running from the area just before the fire began.
