NUST/NTA Joint Message To Community Regarding School Closure

Good Afternoon NUSD Families and Community,

This is a joint message between Acting Superintendent Leticia Salinas and NTA President Timothy Merritt regarding the developing situation with COVID-19 and our plan of action moving forward. We are in regular and frequent communication and working together in a unified manner.

At this point, we are not closing schools, however, this message is to give guidance and continuity for the community if, and when, a school or district closure may occur.

Please find attached Newark Unified’s Plan for Instructional Continuity developed by Ariel Dolowich, Director of Teaching and Learning. There are three levels detailed in the plan with respect to how we, as educators, will proceed and follow protocols contingent upon the manner in which the situation evolves.

The purpose of the plan is two-fold:

• To provide continuity of instruction for our students
• To communicate clearly with our staff and Newark community regarding appropriate next steps

Please know we recognize the level of stress, anxiety, and concern that exists both within and beyond our community. Our intention is to support one another and maintain a level of flexibility with the evolving nature of this health crisis.

A big thank you to all of the teachers who have worked to put together grade-level student packets in case of possible closure.

While we know a possible school closure with online communication and a student packet is not the same thing as being in a classroom, we want to provide students, parents/guardians, and the community continuity as best we can. In no way do we believe that this will replace our rigorous in-school instruction.

The instructional plan attached serves as the guiding documents to do this.

Buenas tardes Familias y comunidad de el distrito escolar de Newark.

Este es un mensaje conjunto entre la superintendente interina Leticia Salinas y el presidente de la NTA, Timothy Merritt, sobre la situación en desarrollo con COVID-19 y nuestro plan de acción para avanzar. Mantenemos una comunicación regular y frecuente y trabajamos juntos de manera unificada.

En este punto, no estamos cerrando escuelas, sin embargo, este mensaje es para dar orientación y continuidad a la comunidad si, y cuándo, puede ocurrir el cierre de una escuela o distrito.

El adjunto El Plan de Continuidad Educativa del Unificado de Newark desarrollado por Ariel Dolowich, Director de Enseñanza y Aprendizaje. Hay tres niveles detallados en el plan con respecto a cómo nosotros, como educadores, procederemos y seguiremos los protocolos contingente a la forma en que evoluciona la situación.

El propósito del plan es para:

• . Comunicarnos claramente con nuestro personal y la comunidad de Newark con respecto a los próximos pasos apropiados.

Tenga en cuenta que reconocemos el nivel de estrés, ansiedad y preocupación que existe tanto dentro como más allá en nuestra comunidad. Nuestra intención es apoyarnos mutuamente y mantener un nivel de flexibilidad con la naturaleza cambiante de esta crisis de salud.

Un gran agradecimiento a todos los maestros que han trabajado para reunir paquetes de estudiantes de nivel de grado en caso de posible cierre.

Si bien sabemos que un posible cierre de la escuela con la comunicación en línea y un paquete de estudiantes no es lo mismo que estar en un salón de clases, queremos brindarles a los estudiantes, padres / tutores la continuidad de la comunidad lo mejor que podamos. De ninguna manera creemos que esto reemplazará nuestra rigurosa instrucción en la escuela.

El plan de instrucción adjunto sirve como documentos de guía para hacer esto.
