One Injured In Newark Hit-And-Run

Police got a call reporting the crash at 12:55 a.m.

NEWARK, CA -- A hit-and-run injury collision closed Thornton Avenue near State Highway 84 in Newark for more than an hour early Saturday morning, a police sergeant said. Police got a call reporting the crash at 12:55 a.m., Newark police Sgt. Shannon Todd said.

When police arrived, they discovered that "one party fled prior to police arrival," Todd said. The person who fled left their vehicle behind, according to Todd.

Thornton was closed for more than an hour while police investigated the crash. The collision involved one vehicle hitting another, the sergeant said.

Todd said she could not give further details, including whether the person injured in the crash was taken to the hospital.

The case is still under investigation, Todd said.
