Police Checkpoint: 24 Nabbed With Suspended Or No License
Newark Police also arrested one driver on a DUI warrant.

NEWARK, CA — During an eight hour checkpoint in Newark on Sept. 1., the Newark Police Department issued citations to 24 drivers for either driving without a license or driving on a suspended license.
Officers also arrested one driver for a DUI warrant.
The DUI checkpoint was held on Thornton Avenue near Newark Boulevard from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. The location was chosen based on impaired driving-related crashes reports.

The primary purpose of a DUI checkpoint is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads. Another checkpoint will be held before the end of the year.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
