'Suspicious' Tri-City Preschool Fire Under Investigation
The fire was reported at 1:28 p.m. in Safari Kid Preschool.
NEWARK, CA -- Alameda County firefighters are investigating a "suspicious" fire that broke out at a preschool center in Newark on Saturday afternoon. The fire was reported at 1:28 p.m. in Safari Kid Preschool at 34899 Newark Boulevard.
The center was closed and no one was there because it was the weekend, Alameda County fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
Firefighters arrived and found a "cold smoke environment" and the odor of gasoline, fire officials said in a news release.

The fire remained at one alarm and firefighters were able to extinguish it in five minutes after fire sprinklers held it under control, fire officials said.
Multiple rooms sustained fire and water damage but no one was injured, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
