1 Dead In 6-Car Crash On 405 Freeway: CHP

At least one person died in the crash, which was reported late Tuesday night on the southbound side of the freeway, authorities said.

COSTA MESA, CA — At least one person died in a six-car crash on the California State route 405 freeway late Tuesday night, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash was reported at 11:37 p.m. Tuesday on the southbound side of the freeway near Harbor Boulevard in the City of Costa Mesa, according to reports.

The incident resulted in hard closures on the southbound side of the freeway through Wednesday morning as authorities assessed the scene.

At least one person was reported dead as a result of the crash. He was identified only as a man in his 50s, according to the California Highway Patrol. It was not known how many people were injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

All lanes remained closed well into Wednesday morning, snarling the commute for drivers. All lanes were reopened just before 9 a.m.
