2 'Miraculously' Escape Car After Violent Crash In OC

The brutal crash sent debris flying across Jamboree Road, and a tire was found inside the nearby Palisades Tennis Club property.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Two people inside of an SUV that was damaged beyond recognition in a crash "miraculously" escaped with minor injuries Sunday morning in Newport Beach, authorities said.

Newport Beach firefighters were dispatched to the 1100 block of Jamboree Road in Newport Beach around 1 a.m., authorities said in a statement.

Upon arriving, multiple units found a "significant single-vehicle traffic collision" on the southbound side of Jamboree Road.

According to firefighters, an SUV struck and severely damaged two light poles before crashing with a tree, causing the engine compartment to separate from the main body of the car.

"Upon arrival, NE63 quickly extinguished a fire in the vehicle's engine compartment," the NBFD said in a statement. "The main body of the vehicle was found approximately 20 feet away in the middle of Jamboree Road, with additional debris, including a front tire, discovered inside the Palisades Tennis Club Property."

Two occupants of the car self-extricated prior to the arrival of emergency responders and were found sitting on the curb, firefighters said.

They were assessed at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
