Aliso Viejo Bombing: 5 Things to Know

ALISO VIEJO, CA — On a May afternoon, an explosion rocked the quiet community of Aliso Viejo. A Hungarian day spa owner was killed in the blast. Here are the facts of the case that Orange County Sheriff's Department and multiple agencies have learned.

1. It wasn't an accident. The bombing was an intentional explosion, according to authorities. Witnesses said that when Krajnyak used a tool to open a brown cardboard box, it then exploded. The remains of that device have been sent for further testing, according to the FBI.
2. One woman was killed, three others injured in the blast. Ildiko Krajnyak, 48, of Trabuco Canyon was positively identified by the Orange County Coroner as having been killed by the blast. A GoFundMe has been established to assist in memorial expenses and for her son and family. Two other women suffered lacerations and burns from the blast. The third suffered smoke inhalation, the DOJ said.
3. 11 Mareblu. The blast was centered at an Aliso Viejo day spa, Magyar Kometika, located on the first floor of the 11 Mareblu building. Long Beach resident Stephen Beal, a former boyfriend of Krajnyak, is listed on the lease along with Krajnyak. The street and buildings of 5 and 11 Mareblu were closed for several days during the investigation.
4. No one has been charged with the crime. Actor and former boyfriend of the deceased, Stephen Beal, a resident of Long Beach, was arrested after FBI served search warrants at his home following the explosion. He was not charged in the homicide of Ildiko Krajnyak. He was released "without prejudice" according to the Department of Justice.
5. The homicide investigation is continuing. The FBI, ATF, Homeland Security and Orange County Sheriff's Office are all investigating the case. As of Friday, Carrie Braun, spokeswoman for the OCSD, said investigators are continuing to follow leads regarding Beal's connection in the Aliso Viejo homicide. "(All agencies) will continue to investigate this case to bring justice to Ildiko's family," Braun said.
