NEWPORT BEACH, CA — An Anaheim Angels Hall of Famer died this week, the franchise announced on Friday, after Garret Anderson was announced dead at 53-years-old.

"The Angels organization is mourning the loss of one of our franchise's most beloved icons, Garret Anderson," Angels owner Arte Moreno said in a statement. "Garret was a cornerstone of our organization throughout his 15 seasons and his stoic presence in the outfield and our clubhouse elevated the Angels into an era of continued success, highlighted by the 2002 World Series championship."

Anderson apparently passed away on Thursday after suffering from a medical emergency at his home in Newport Beach, TMZ reported originally.

"Garret will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Angels fans for his professionalism, class, and loyalty throughout his career and beyond. His admiration and respect for the game was immeasurable. We extend our deepest condolences to Garret's wife Teresa, daughters Brianne and Bailey, son Garrey Trey Anderson III, and his entire family," the statement read.

The Los Angeles native was drafted to the MLB in 1990 and made his debut with the Angels in 1994.

The outfielder played 15 seasons with the team and held the team's record for most career games played, which was 2,013.

After his time in Anaheim, he spent one season each with the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
