NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A great white shark was captured in a dramatic video leaping from the water near a boogie boarder in Newport Beach, according to KTLA.
The outlet reported that Soaren Stevenson was recording his brother at 6:30 a.m. Saturday near Lifeguard Tower 40 when the shark jumped into view.
Christopher Lowe, a marine biology professor who runs the Cal State Long Beach Shark Lab, told KTLA the shark looked to be a juvenile and was likely jumping to dislodge itchy parasites or just having some fun.
