NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Police officers in Newport Beach shared body camera footage Friday of the rescue of five dogs trapped in a hot car "showing signs of distress."
Authorities said a Newport PD Animal Control officer responded to a vehicle on May 18 in the 2400 block of Holly Lane, where the five dogs were seen trapped inside with "windows slightly cracked open, most confined in cages, and showing signs of distress," as temperatures inside the car climbed.
The footage shows the officer on video breaking the window to rescue the dogs.
After the animals were rescued, they were evaluated by a veterinarian and found to have body temperatures at a fatal level for dogs.
Police officers to KTLA that the dogs have since made a full recovery.
The case has since been submitted to the Orange County District Attorney for review.
