Former Reality TV Doctor Who Was Accused Of Sexual Assaults Has Medical License Revoked: Report (patch.com) — Newport Beach residents are learning that former local orthopedic surgeon and one-time reality TV personality Grant Robicheaux has had his California medical license revoked after previously keeping it on probation. The decision follows a years-long, highly publicized case involving allegations he met women at Newport Beach nightspots and brought them to his Balboa Peninsula home, which ultimately resulted in gun and drug convictions rather than sexual assault charges.
2. Dunn: Newport Beach to be designated as USTA 'Tennis Town' (ocregister.com) — Newport Beach will be officially honored as a USTA "Tennis Town" during the 100th Ken Stuart Pacific Southwest Senior Tennis Championships at Palisades Tennis Club, running Sept. 6-13. Hundreds of senior players from across the country will compete, while city officials join a Sept. 10 ceremony recognizing Newport Beach's deep tennis history and extensive local facilities.
3. Race Against Time to Build Defenses as Hurricane Barrels Off California (pulptastic.com) — Newport Beach crews are racing this week to build a much larger sand berm to protect the shoreline from dangerous surf and possible flooding as Hurricane Marie stirs up the Pacific. Officials have doubled staff, poured in extra funds, and warned beachgoers to stay extremely cautious through Labor Day weekend while lifeguards monitor powerful waves and rip currents.
4. COURT WATCH: Judge Releases Accused on Own Recognizance After Twin Brother Raises Possible Charge Mix-Up (davisvanguard.org) — A Newport Beach judge released a DUI defendant on their own recognizance after the man and his twin brother told the court charges may have been mixed up because they share the same first name. The judge recalled the warrant and ordered prosecutors to sort out which brother should actually face the case before any further proceedings.
5. South L.A. Man Pleads Guilty to Violent SoCal Armed Robberies and Mall Shooting (edhat.com) — A South Los Angeles man has pleaded guilty to a string of armed robberies across Southern California, including a high-end watch and wallet robbery at Newport Beach's Fashion Island and a shooting at Costa Mesa's South Coast Plaza. Newport Beach police assisted a federal-local task force that investigated the case, and the defendant now faces at least 10 years in prison.
