NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A 58-year-old man Texas was charged Monday with an alcohol-fueled hit-and-run collision that injured a woman in Newport Beach.
James Craig Kelly was charged with hit-and-run with injury and driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, both felonies, as well as a misdemeanor count of driving on a restricted license.
Police were called about the collision just before 4:50 p.m. Thursday to San Joaquin Hills Road and MacArthur Boulevard, police said.
Police put out a bulletin for a suspect vehicle and tracked down a black Range Rover with a California license plate about a mile from the crash, police said.
Kelly, who will turn 59 on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty Monday in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. He was due to return to court Sept. 22 for a pretrial hearing in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
In all, three people were injured in the collision, police said.
