Newport Beach Film Festival Take 27: October 15-22 (newportbeachindy.com) β Newport Beach is about to host the 27th Newport Beach Film Festival from Oct. 15β22, bringing more than 300 films and nightly events to venues like The Lot, Big Newport, and Fashion Island. Residents can buy individual tickets, attend Q&As with filmmakers and special guests, and enjoy international spotlights, documentaries, and upbeat stories chosen to create a positive community experience.

Southern California braces for rain, coastal flooding as Tropical Storm Rachel arrives in the region (ktla.com) β Newport Beach has declared a local state of emergency as Tropical Storm Rachel drives dangerous surf and coastal flooding, with sand berms already lining Balboa Beach. Through Monday, expect cooler temperatures, strong winds, hazardous rip currents, and flooded streets, and officials urge residents to stay out of the water, avoid flooded roads, and follow emergency directions.

4. Black helicopter shoots fireworks at Newport Beach gala (amedpost.com) β Residents near Newport Beach Country Club recently saw a dramatic helicopter show firing fireworks and smoke effects during a private gala, briefly alarming neighbors. Police posted ahead of time that the noisy flyover was planned and safe, and the stunt supported a Navy SEAL veterans' nonprofit while showcasing a helicopter used in major Hollywood films.
