The weekend's rainfall led to severe flooding in Newport Beach, prompting city officials to declare a local state of emergency.

In addition, several locations in Newport Beach were closed over the weekend due to conditions, including the Newport Pier and Balboa Pier.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall is expected to continue Monday but subside by Tuesday.

Residents were advised to steer clear of the water.

The berm comes after flooding prompted by high tides and rough surf swamped Newport Beach on Friday.

The flooding inundated streets on the Balboa Peninsula as a result of the tides.

Television footage Friday showed flooded streets on the Balboa Peninsula, with pedestrians wading through standing water and vehicles partially submerged. The extent of damage was not immediately known.
