NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A third straight day of king tides and a concurrent Kelvin wave wreaked havoc on some Orange County beach cities Tuesday.

In Newport Beach, the Balboa Peninsula saw its second day of flooding as high tide peaked Tuesday morning, hitting a record-setting 8.4 feet, according to the city's police department.

Authorities warned that residents could expect similar conditions Wednesday.

Video posted by Orange County resident Blair Conklin showed travelers riding the Balboa Ferry trying to navigate through a walkway flooded with almost a foot of water.

The video also showed water gurgling through storm drains, fencing, doorways and more.

According to ABC7, Lido Park Drive near Lafayette Road was flooded Tuesday morning, and several residential buildings and businesses were shown surrounded by sandbags and inches of ocean water.

On 8th Street by Newport Harbor Yacht Club, the boat yard and the surrounding streets were flooded, ABC7 reported.

Newport Beach utilities department crew members were onsite through Tuesday working to pump out the water and clean up the streets while the water began to recede once high tide ended.

"I've been here off and on since I was a child. The ocean and the bay met in about 1983, but other than that, this is the worst I've ever seen," Newport Beach resident Pam Bacich told ABC7. "We've certainly never seen tides up this high."
