Brush Fire Breaks Out Near Freeway In South OC Thursday
The fire was reported at 1:23 p.m. near the State Route 73 Freeway in Newport Beach, the California Highway Patrol reported.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A small brush fire was extinguished in south Orange County Thursday afternoon thanks to a swift emergency response, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fire was reported at 1:32 p.m. on the right shoulder of the California State route 73 Freeway traveling south through Newport Beach, near Newport Coast Drive.
While there was no immediate word on how large the fire was, the CHP reported that the fire was "spreading to additional brush" at 1:27 p.m.

According to preliminary reports, one man was seen trying to douse the flames shortly after the fire broke out.
By 2:10 p.m., the fire was no longer burning in the area.
