Burglar Steals From Newport Heights Home, Authorities Urge Caution

The burglar shattered a glass door of the Newport Beach home and broke into the home's safe, police say.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A burglar broke into a Newport Beach home and stole items from the home's safe over the weekend, the Newport Beach Police Department reported.

The burglary happened sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, when a burglar shattered the back glass door of a home in the 3100 block of Broad Street in the Newport Heights Neighborhood, police said.

The resident of the home was gone at the time of the break-in, authorities said in a news release.

While inside of the home, the burglar "rummaged through the master bedroom, master bathroom and office," the news release said. When the suspect found a safe, police said they "pried it open" and stole some of what was inside.

Police told KTLA that passports were taken from the safe but did not list any other losses. No information on the burglar was immediately available.
