Car Careens Off 50 Foot Cliff, Occupants Rescued Thanks To NBFD

The crash was reported Saturday evening when a car careened down a 50-foot cliff near the Crystal Cove Historical District.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Newport Beach firefighters were hard at work Saturday, when a vehicle careened off a 50-foot cliff and crashed at Crystal Cove Historical District.

The crash was reported late Saturday evening on Pacific Coast Highway, the Newport Beach Police Department reported.

Authorities responded with a swift and very technical over the cliff rescue, firefighters said.

Both the driver and occupants were able to self-extricate, authorities said, and were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. It was not immediately known if drugs of alcohol were a factor in the crash.
