Cars Vandalized With Swastikas In South OC; Police Seek Leads

Some residents living in an apartment complex in south Orange County woke up to find swastikas spray painted on their vehicles.

COSTA MESA, CA — Authorities sought the public's help this weekend in finding a suspect responsible for spray painting swastikas on cars near an apartment complex in south Orange County.

According to the police, the incident happened at the Ava Apartment complex along Santa Ana Avenue in Costa Mesa between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday of last week.

On Saturday, the Costa Mesa Police Department took to social media to say that the department was aware of the photo of a silver Mercedes Benz vandalized with a swastika.

“We condemn this act of vandalism and the use of this abhorrent and hurtful symbol,” the police department said in a statement.

According to the Los Angeles Times, an audit of antisemitic incidents by the Anti-Defamation League saw that vandalism, harassment and assaults increased in Southern California in 2022.

Costa Mesa police are investigating the situation, but do not have any information or descriptions of suspects at this point.
