Champions Tour Arrives in Newport
The Newport Beach Country Club hosts the 19th annual Toshiba Classic golf tournament which runs through Sunday.
Foggy weather didn't deter fans from coming out to watch the first round of the Toshiba Classic on Friday in Newport Beach.
Some fans followed their favorite players along the course, while others chose to remain in the bleachers awaiting the arrival of each threesome. Indoors the clubhouse and proshop were buzzing with customers.
"It's awesome, very exciting, even though I've experienced many other events elsewhere, it's fun to be totally entrenched," said Tony Letendre, the Newport Beach Country Club's director of golf, said. "I'm enjoying meeting all of the players and speaking to people in the gallery about the event."

Two of those spectators, Moira Connelly of Brea, and Kim Hoffman of Costa Mesa, have followed golf for many years and talked about being longtime fans of the classics.
"We grew up with them," Hoffman said.

"I'm here to see the yumminess," added Connelly, mostly referring to Fred Couples as he strode towards the green.
The premier event draws thousands of spectators and has raised $15 million for Hoag Hospital since 1992 when Toshiba became the sponsor.
