CHP Makes Nearly 100 OC DUI Arrests Over New Years

Statewide, the California Highway Patrol's New Year DUI arrests more than doubled.

The California Highway Patrol office in Irvine has released statistics for Orange County highways during New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The CHP says there were no highway fatalities either on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, but there were 19 DUI arrests on New Year’s Eve and 78 on New Year’s Day.

Statewide, California Highway Patrol officers arrested a total of 1,072 impaired drivers between New Year’s Eve and Sunday morning, up from 457 in the year-ago holiday period. The CHP drunken driving arrests were made on freeways and in unincorporated areas between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Sunday.
