Cooler Temps Across Orange County, Winds in Mountains

Expect cooler temps will reign until mid-week in Laguna, San Clemente, Newport, Anaheim and Mission Viejo. Gusty winds in mountain passes.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA -Though mountain winds will be gusting, sunny skies and temperate fall weather is in the weather forecast this week in Orange County.

Expect cooler than normal highs of 72 in San Clemente; 73 in Newport Beach; 75 in Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo; 77 in Fullerton, Anaheim and Irvine; and 78 in Yorba Linda.

Orange County temperatures will be roughly the same through Wednesday, then climb by several degrees.

MOUNTAIN WIND:

Expect a weather change across the San Gabriel Mountains and valley today as gusting winds will buffet create an elevated wildfire danger. Combined with that, blowing dust could potentially disrupt traffic, National Weather Service forecasters said.

"Northwest-to-north winds will blow through the Interstate 5 corridor in the mountains and the Western Antelope Valley, gusting to between 35 and 50 miles per hour, with the strongest winds occurring in the late afternoon and evening through Tuesday night," the NWS released in a statement. "Gusty winds will also strike parts of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties"

NOT QUITE RED FLAG:

Humidity will not fall low enough to add red flag warning, however "the wind-prone areas will see elevated fire danger with potential rapid fire spread due to the extremely dry fuels," the National Weather Service stated.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution through mountain passes and in wind-prone areas, and to prepare themselves for gusty crosswinds, "which can be especially hazardous for high-profile vehicles," they stated in the release.

Interstate 5 and the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway will be especially vulnerable, according to the NWS statement.

WIND ADVISORIES, COOLER TEMPS:

A wind advisories will be in effect until noon on Monday in the San Gabriel Mountains.

The NWS forecast sunny weather in Los Angeles County on Monday and temperatures generally lower than average, with highs of 66 on Mount Wilson; 73 in Palmdale; 74 in Lancaster, Avalon and at LAX; 76 in Saugus; 77 in Long Beach, downtown L.A., San Gabriel and Burbank; 78 in Pasadena; and 80 in Woodland Hills.

In Los Angeles County, temperatures will begin a slow warming trend Tuesday and climb several degrees starting Wednesday, when highs in several communities will be 10 degrees higher than today.
