CORONA DEL MAR, CA — Firefighters in Newport Beach doused a hillside blaze in a Corona Del Mar neighborhood, Monday.

Fire Chief Jeff Boyles described the scene that began just after 12:30 p.m. at a residence under construction on Ocean Boulevard near Breakers Drive.

"Trees on the hillside, below the home, were ignited by construction work," said Fire Chief Jeff Boyles.

For once, winds came to the aid of the firefighters, blowing the right direction to quell the flames.

The firefighters' efforts were aided by off-shore Santa Ana winds that pushed the flames toward the beach, rather than toward the neighborhood and homes, Boyles said.
