Corona Del Mar Man Dies After Solo-Car Crash

The motorist hit a tree after driving off De Luz Road in the Temecula area, CHP said.

TEMECULA, CA – A 68-year-old motorist died after his vehicle went off De Luz Road and crashed into a tree Tuesday night near Temecula, authorities said.

The man from Corona Del Mar was driving south in a 2007 Volkswagen at a "high rate of speed" on De Luz north of Via Vaquero at about 11:45 p.m. when he crossed the double-yellow lines and the northbound lane of De Luz and hit a tree on the roadway's dirt shoulder, the California Highway Patrol said.

The driver, whose name was not released, sustained major injuries in the crash and was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased, the CHP said.

Along with the CHP, crews from American Medical Response and Riverside County Fire responded to the collision. The CHP's Temecula office is conducting the collision investigation, officials said.
