Coroner IDs Irvine Motorcyclist After Fatal Crash

The 22-year-old man was riding in Costa Mesa when he collided with another vehicle and was killed, police say.

COSTA MESA, CA — Police identified the 22-year-old biker killed in a collision with a vehicle in Costa Mesa. Yasar Barakzai, who was riding the motorcycle, was identified by the Orange County Coroner's Office Thursday.

Police and firefighters responded about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday to a traffic collision between Barakzai and the driver of a silver Nissan sedan on Fairview Road and Adams Avenue, according to a statement from the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The crash occurred as he was traveling northbound on Fairview Road and the Nissan driver was going westbound on El Camino Drive, which turns into Adams Avenue, the statement said.

Barakzai was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was not hurt and cooperated with investigators, police said.

CMPD's Major Accident Investigation Team responded to determine the cause of the crash.
