Costa Mesa Man Dead After Solo Truck Crash In Trabuco Canyon

Authorities are investigating a fatal traffic accident that left one man dead, one injured and a truck overturned.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A Costa Mesa man died early Monday morning when a truck flipped over near the entrance of O'Neill Regional Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 4:09 a.m. on Live Oak Canyon Road after a Toyota pickup truck traveling southbound lost control and flipped over, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver, a 22-year-old man from Costa Mesa, was "ejected" from the pickup truck and suffered fatal injuries, the CHP reported.

The truck's passenger was found with moderate injuries and taken to Mission Hospital. He is described by authorities as a 24-year-old man from Mission Viejo.

The identity of the driver will be released by the Orange County Coroner's Office pending notification to next of kin. It is not currently known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, the CHP reported.
