An elderly couple, Kenny and Diane Lee, in the white dodge van required additional assistance. Initial accident reports stated that two people were reportedly walking around in lanes, disoriented.

The Costa Mesa Fire Department was on scene, and tow trucks have worked to clear the roadways.

“When people are involved in an accident, their first instinct is to get out of the car, but that is not the safest thing to do on the freeway,” Quesada said. “If you are involved in an accident on the freeway, you should move your vehicle to the right shoulder if at all possible.”

The Sig alert was cancelled at 3 p.m.
