Delta Flight Diverted After Extreme Turbulence Injures 5
A Seattle-bound Delta flight diverted course to Reno after extreme turbulence. The "chaotic and scary" event injured 5, witnesses say.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Multiple passengers on a Delta Airlines flight bound for Seattle from John Wayne Airport were injured due to extreme turbulence, and the plane was diverted to Reno, Nevada, authorities said.
The aftermath of the turbulence was caught on video, showing beverage carts blocking the aisles along with piles of food items and detritus from overhead compartments. Passengers comforted one another until the plane could land.
Flight 5763 made an emergency landing about 1 p.m. Wednesday. Three passengers were evaluated by Reno Airport Firefighters and transported for hospital treatment in unknown condition, according to an airport spokesperson.

"Crazy turbulence and injuries, but the (Delta) crew 'handled it perfectly, even the emergency landing,'" passenger Joe Justice tweeted.
Two other people were reportedly injured but were not taken to a hospital.

Passenger Barbara Belcher tweeted her experiences, saying her journey was "chaotic and scary, but that people showed up as their best selves."

Delta reportedly fed passengers pizza in Reno while they awaited their continuing flight to Seattle. Eventually, they all buckled up tight for the next leg of their journey, making it safely to Seattle, Belcher said over Twitter.
