COSTA MESA, CA — While the start of the summer brings joy to students across Orange County, many students in need wonder how they will receive vital things for the start of the new school year such as backpacks, writing tools and clothes.

To help solve this issue, Orange County nonprofit Project Hope Alliance is hosting a backpack drive to benefit 400 homeless students in Orange County.

With a $60,000 donation goal, residents can donate any sum of money to go toward giving a homeless Orange County child a backpack, school supplies and new clothes.

Donating money isn't the only way Orange County residents can participate. Residents can head to the store and grab items from the nonprofit's school supplies list before bringing the items to the store to be packed in a backpack.

Residents can also refer to Project Hope Alliance's packing list and fill a new backpack to drop off for donation.

For every fully-packed backpack received, Project Hope Alliance will sign off on one hour of community service, according to the nonprofit's website.

Residents can also ship items from the nonprofit's Amazon wishlist directly to the office. Items on the wishlist include Crayola Crayons, Elmer's School Glue, pencil bags, sharpeners, erasers and more.

Those looking to donate can drop off supplies and filled backpacks at the Project Hope Alliance office, 1954 Placentia Ave., Suite 202, Costa Mesa. The office is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
