With high surf off the Newport Beach Coastline, the area known as "The Wedge" was the site of a dramatic jet ski accident & lifeguard rescue
Newport Beach, CA — Watch the first video of the Jet Ski accident from June 26, when two riders smashed into the rock jetty at Newport Beach, The Wedge in Orange County, California.
On a day with high surf and dangerous conditions, "he just drove straight in,” Newport Beach Marine Safety Capt. Skeeter Leeper told the OC Register. “They rented a jet ski and they were at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Reports state that the waves were in excess of 20 feet tall.

The couple reportedly made it to the beach unharmed. The jet ski was a total loss, as it was pummeled by the waves.
