DUI Checkpoint Planned for Friday
A handful of things happening in and around Newport Beach.
- The Newport Beach Police Department says it will hold a sobriety checkpoint from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday at northbound Jamboree Road at Santa Barbara Drive. Officers also will check drivers licenses and hand out pamphlets with information about driving under the influence.
- Now through October, the is selling Orange County Blend Coffee and Orange County Sunshine Blend Tea, two blends exclusive to the O.C. area, at 24 locations throughout the county. The coffee is $9.95, and the tea is $8.95. For every bag of coffee or tea sold, the stores will donate $1 to a designated school.
- Now through Thursday, April 21, applications and essays are being accepted for the city of Newport Beach scholarship program. Ten $500 scholarships will be awarded to children who live in Newport Beach or to children of regular, full-time Newport Beach employees. Applicants are to have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must be applying to an accredited two-year community college or an accredited four-year college/university. - The Goldenrod Footbridge in Corona del Mar has been undergoing seismic retrofitting since the beginning of the year. The work is expected to be completed by next month and will ensure its ability to withstand a substantial earthquake, officials say. The bridge spans the 200 and 300 blocks of Goldenrod Avenue and stretches over Bayside Drive. .
