COSTA MESA, CA — Firefighters raced to a Costa Mesa house fire on Thursday afternoon. At the blaze, on the 2100 block of Wallace, firefighters quickly realized that the battle would have to take place from the roof.

An abnormal amount of combustible storage made it difficult to access the blaze, according to Capt. Joseph Noceti of Costa Mesa Fire. "Most of the firefighting was handled from the roof of the home."

The residents inside and a dog were able to evacuate the blaze, uninjured, Noceti told Patch.

Costa Mesa Fire, Newport Beach Fire Department, and Fountain Valley Fire Department were all on the scene of what Noceti described as an "extensive operation."

No one was injured in the blaze, but with an excess of belongings within the damaged area, firefighters aren't willing to give the all clear as of this report.

"Fire tends to dig deep into those things, and water can't penetrate everything," he said.

Costa Mesa Fire will remain on the scene to ensure it doesn't pick back up again.
