"We miss our brother dearly, and we'll take it from here, Captain Kreza," CMFA said. Watch his memorial here, streaming live at 10:30 a.m.
LAKE FOREST, CA — A memorial service was planned for Costa Mesa Fire Capt. Mike Kreza, who was struck and killed by a suspected drugged driver while bicycling in Orange County. Due to space, the service was limited to family, friends and all emergency responders.
"We are devastated by this immense loss, but our firefighters and the Kreza family have found strength and heartfelt gratitude in the incredible amount of condolences, prayers and emotional and financial support from our community and beyond," Costa Mesa Fire Chief Dan Stefano said. "Following the accident and Mike's passing, we have all truly felt what it means to be part of the Costa Mesa Fire Family."
Stefano expressed his pride in the team, and the brotherhood of fire services from across the nation who have stepped up to help the Kreza family in their time of need.

The fire family has been consistently there for the family, even attending Kreza's youngest daughter's soccer game with signs, cheering and a victory tunnel. Actions, not words, are what this department has shown the family.
"Words cannot adequately express how grateful we are for the outpouring of love and support we have been given during this impossible time," wife Shanna Kreza said. "It has been a tremendous comfort and brought us a sense of calm, making us feel like Mike is still with us."

According to Costa Mesa Fire Authority President, Captain Rob Gagne, Mike exemplified what it means to be a loving husband and father.
"The fire chief and our firefighters have been consistently by Shanna's side, making sure her ever need was handled," Gagne said. "Mike exemplified what it means to be a loving husband and father and he was solid as they come while performing his job."
Flowers and gifts were not expected, however donations to Shanna Kreza and the family's three daughters were encouraged. A GoFundMe for Kreza's family has topped the $200,000 mark, and those touched by the fire captain's story continue to donate.
Master Artist, Laurent Dareau will present a portrait of Kreza to the Costa Mesa Fire Department to honor the captain.

"I am broken hearted for his precious daughters and his lovely wife. I just wanted to add his dignity to the series, so he can stand with his brothers," Dareau said in a statement about the painting. "Love is truly all I can give back to this man."
The memorial was to be held at 10:30 a.m. Saddleback Church, 1 Saddleback Parkway, Lake Forest.
Donations to the Kreza Family, and the Costa Mesa Widows and Orphans fund, are still being accepted.
