The news of flooding comes after King Tides came early in Newport Beach, with lifeguards reporting an eight-foot high tide on Sunday, almost two feet above previous predictions.

Reports of the big waves had city crews busy through the weekend.

"City crews and contractors have been working throughout the weekend to prepare, reinforcing protective sand berms, placing thousands of sandbags in vulnerable areas, inspecting storm drains and tide valves and positioning pumps and emergency equipment," the city said in a statement.

Residents in low-lying areas were urged to take precautions by protecting their properties with sandbags or temporary flood barriers.

In addition, the City of Newport Beach placed a suspension on parking enforcement through Wednesday to allow residents to relocate their vehicles if needed.
