Former President Clinton Treated For Infection At UCI Hospital

IRVINE, CA – Doctors at the University of California Irvine Medical Center hope to release former President Bill Clinton from the facility soon after he was treated for a “non-COVID-related infection,” Clinton’s spokesperson said Thursday.

Clinton, the nation’s 42nd President and former Arkansas governor, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday. On Thursday, spokesperson Angel Urena said that Clinton’s white blood cell count was “trending downward” but that he was being kept at the hospital for continual monitoring.

CNN reported on Friday that Clinton was admitted to the medical center to be treated for a urinary tract disease that had spread to his bloodstream. The network, citing a Clinton spokesperson, said Clinton was in California for a private event, said that Clinton will likely br switched over to oral antibiotics on Friday. The former President is said to be walking around after feeling fatigued before he was admitted to the hospital.

“He is on the mend, in good spirits and is incredibly thankful to the doctors, nurses and staff for providing him excellent care,” Urena said in the statement.

Clinton, 75, has been under the care of a New York based medical team, including a cardiologist, according to Urena. His doctors at UCI Hospital, Dr. Alpesh Amin and Dr. Lisa Bardack, said that Clinton was administered IV antibiotics and fluids. His California doctors have been in contact with his New York physicians, the statement said.

Dr. David Agus, a professor of medicine at USC Keck School of Medicine and a CBS News medical contributor, said he had spoken to Clinton's doctors, who said Clinton became ill while attending a Clinton Foundation fundraiser, experiencing nausea and vomiting, Argus said on a morning news appearance Friday morning.

Clinton was taken to the hospital, where doctors detected the bacteria E.Coli in his urine after running a series of tests on the former President, Agus told CBS News Friday morning. Agus said doctors told him Clinton was doing ``dramatically better,''and could potentially be released from the hospital over the weekend.

“We hope to have him home soon,” the statement said.
