Free E-Bike Safety Workshops In Newport Beach: What To Know

Residents were urged to take part in one of two upcoming workshops addressing electric bike safety in the City of Newport Beach.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Two electric bike safety workshops will be hosted by the City of Newport Beach this October, and residents were urged to save the date to be a part of the experience.

The public workshops will cover vital topics, ranging from safe riding practices to the maintenance and inspection of e-bikes.

The community workshops will be held by the Newport Beach Police Department in addition to several student-only workshops being held at Ensign, Mariners and Corona del Mar High School.

According to Newport Beach City Manager Grace Leung, the public workshops will address the following topics:

  • Safe riding practices.
    • Residents will learn how to navigate traffic, intersections and pedestrian areas safely to reduce the risk of crashes.
  • Maintenance and inspection.
    • Residents will learn to understand the importance of maintaining e-bikes in good working order to prevent accidents caused by mechanical failures.
  • Helmets and protective gear.
    • Residents will learn why helmets and other protective gear are of critical importance in reducing the severity of injuries in case of a crash.
  • Local regulations.
    • Residents will get informed about e-bike regulations in our community to ensure that riders stay in compliance.
  • Law enforcement.
    • Residents will learn how the Newport Beach Police Department is enforcing laws and regulations related to e-bikes.

The public workshops will be held on Monday, Oct. 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mariners Elementary School, 2100 Mariners Dr. and on Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Ensign Intermediate School, 2000 Cliff Dr.
