Friday Surf Report

The energy is fading.

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.  Well, we're the latest dose of energy is continuing to back off, but there are still some playful size waves to be had especially at those top combo breaks.

The conditions are starting off with some texture or light bump on it from the start thanks to the variable southwind.  Taking a look at the waves...we're seeing mainly residual south southwest swell and some pretty minor northwest windswell in the water.

That recipe is providing some racy and crumbly sectiony lines, with a few rippable shoulders.  Most Newport Beach spots are hanging about knee- to stomach-high, with the top combo breaks pulling some chest-high plus sets.

At 7:48 this morning the tide drains to a negative 0.5 low which will have most spots lacking water and shapeless throughout mid-morning.  Your best bet...once that tide fills in and then eventually climbs up to a 3.4 high at 2:43 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, you can throw on a 3/2 fullsuit, with the water temperature feeling fairly comfortable and averaging between 59 and 61 degrees.  See ya in the water!
