Golf Carts Not Street Legal In Newport Beach, Cops Say

Want to drive your golf cart through Newport Beach? You still have to follow these rules of the road.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Want to drive that golf cart of yours across Newport Beach? The Newport Beach Police Department issued a special request to residents to respect and follow the rules of the road when it comes to driving your golf carts.

On "Traffic Tuesday," the NBPD's question and answer session with readers across the city over Facebook, they tackled the great golf cart legality question.

Can I legally drive a low-speed vehicle (like a golf cart) on public streets?
Answer: Low speed vehicles are restricted to streets with a speed limit of 35 MPH or less.
So... no golf cart shenanigans in 2018, ok folks?

Golf carts should stay on city streets that are rated below 35-miles per hour, according to Newport Beach Police spokesperson.
