GQ Rates Newport Beach Among the Worst-Dressed Cities in America

Hey, Newport.

Did you ever think you'd be on the same list as Kansas City, Omaha and the Jersey shore (the geographic location, not the TV show)?

For dressing badly?

Well, that day has come.

Newport Beach shares a spot, No. 29, with those locales and others on GQ's recently released list of the 40 worst-dressed cities in America.

"Newport's balls-out ostentation veers dangerously into gaudiness—all flashy excess and no style," GQ contributor Maxandra Short sneers.

"The diamonds are huge, the Botox abounds (not just on the ladies), and the women are platinum-blonde-and-boob-job clones," she writes.

Short goes on to tee off on Newport's sacred shopping grounds.

, she writes, is "a bayside destination promising an exotic catwalk of model muses, perhaps, and delivering: a mall."

We called a few Newport clothing stores and boutiques to get some local comment on GQ's finding, but the employees at those places we're all too busy to talk. Too many customers, they said.
