Gravel Spill On 55 Freeway Snarls Traffic Thursday In OC: SigAlert

Motorists were urged to steer clear of the area as crews sweep away a 'large amount of gravel' Thursday morning.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A gravel spill on the State route 55 Freeway traveling through Anaheim snarled traffic and prompted authorities to issue a SigAlert Thursday morning.

The spill was initially reported at around 8:50 a.m. on the State route 55/State route 91 Freeway junction traveling westbound to Anaheim.

According to preliminary reports, a cement mixer truck dropped cement and a large amount of gravel in the #4 lane of the freeway.

The spill prompted California Highway Patrol officials to issue a SigAlert at 9 a.m. for two lanes of the freeway. The SigAlert was expected to last through the hour while crews clean up the gravel.

No injuries were reported and no further information was available.
