High-Tide Fishing in Newport Beach

Newport Beach sportfishing update.

Fish have been biting on the evening incoming high tide in the Newport Beach area.

J.D.of J.D.’s Big Game Tackle said he's been fishing the Newport artificial reef  and has been catching sand bass and calico bass this week.

“It’s not easy fishing” he said about the local white sea bass bite. He said that watching for surface bait and birds and waiting until after sunset on this week’s incoming high tide has been a successful technique for Newport area white sea bass.

open party boats have been taking anglers to the artificial reef for barracuda, sand bass, calico bass and white sea bass.

The Patriot fished Tuesday along the Newport coast with 15 anglers catching 112 barracuda using live anchovies and blue and white lures.

The Nautilus running half day and twilight trips has been getting into barracuda in the morning and bass for the afternoon and evening.

On Tuesday, 112 anglers fished out of Newport Landing hauling in 140 barracuda, 89 calico bass and 88 sand bass.

The Freelance fished Catalina Island on Tuesday, landing 42 barracuda, 22 sand bass and 16 calico bass.

The Western Pride hooked up 38 anglers with 39 calico bass and 10 sand bass and 16 rock fish on a coastal trip.

Jeff Overall at Newport Harbor Kayak Fishing is reporting the water temps in the Back Bay are up and fishing is good.

Trips out of Newport Harbor Kayak Fishing this week have been catching spotted bay bass and halibut in the Back Bay area and near the Pacific Coast Highway bridge.

The jerk shads have been working and that water is 62-65 on the late afternoon tide according to Overall.
