Literacy Project Earns Additional $5,000 from Cox Charities
Newport Beach Nonprofit wins online voting contest

Cox Charities has awarded $5,000 to The Literacy Project based in Newport Beach after the nonprofit organization won Cox’s recent online voting campaign. Cox Charities donated a total of $51,000 to 18 Orange County nonprofit organizations last fall, including The Literacy Project. All 18 nonprofits then had the opportunity to earn an additional $5,000 by generating the most votes and retweets in an online and Twitter public voting campaign.
The funds generated through Cox Charities are earmarked for programs that focus on youth, education, military and conservation. The Literacy Project (TLP) is designed to eliminate the literacy gap for emerging, at-risk second graders who are functionally illiterate. TLP methods and curriculum enables children to catch up to their peers by the critical third grade literacy milestone; to prepare children's literacy skills to "ease into" rather than struggle with the Common Core Standards and to have the ability to participate in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programming.
